NiN Local Environmental Gradient - Fine Material Content (LM-FI)

Description: This cartography symbolizes grain size data according to how much fine material (clay, silt) is found in the upper part of the seabed sediments (approx. 10 cm). Fine material content is based on an indicative percentage value per grain size class and is divided into six levels, adapted to NiN version 3.0.

Use: Bottom sediments are an important environmental variable in mapping habitat types. The local environmental factor "fine material content" is used i.a. for further classification of the main type "aphotic saltwater sediment bottom", which covers large parts of Norwegian sea areas.
