Litter pr Mareano station

Definition: Number of litter objects observed on the seabed per 100 meters on video stations from the Mareano cruises. The data set shows the number of observed objects (larger than 5 cm) on the seabed that are categorized as litter. Litter includes all elements that are man-made. The data set is based on video observations and covers areas where the MAREANO mapping project has collected video material. The data set is based on the interpretation of video material of the surface of the seabed, collected using video rigs. Recording of the seabed surface was done along 200 m and 700 m long transects. All objects identified as litter are recorded along each transect. The variable 'litter' is numeric.

Usage

The data set can be used as a basis in connection with cleaning up the seabed, and to increase knowledge regarding which areas along the coast are heavily littered. Each point symbol is plotted on the coordinates of the midpoint of the transect, where the size of the symbol corresponds to the number of litter objects.

Explanation of assessment of FAIR principles:

There have made various tests to evaluate datasets in relation to the FAIR criteria. These are our interpretations, which then assess the criteria in relation to standards and protocols used for spatial data in Norway and Europe. For more information on which calculations we use for each indicator, look at the details of FAIR assessments for each specific dataset.
