Seabed sediments (grain size), detailed

Definition: The data set shows the grain size composition in the upper part of the seabed sediments (upper 0-50 cm of the seabed). The attribute table for the data set provides information on the different grain size classes and which term is used based on the content of different fractions in sediments. Based on information about grain size distribution, other topics can be further developed, such as sedimentation environment, bottom stream data, information on hard and soft bottoms, etc.

Usage

This data set can be used as basis for decision making in the overall land use and environmental planning, habitat mapping, vulnerability analyzes, impact analysis in connection with installations on the seabed etc. Based on information about grain size distribution, other thematic maps can be developed, such as sedimentary environment, bottom currents, anchoring conditions, etc.

Explanation of assessment of FAIR principles:

There have made various tests to evaluate datasets in relation to the FAIR criteria. These are our interpretations, which then assess the criteria in relation to standards and protocols used for spatial data in Norway and Europe. For more information on which calculations we use for each indicator, look at the details of FAIR assessments for each specific dataset.
