Seabed sediments (genesis), overview

Definition: The dataset shows seabed sediments in the upper part of the seabed (1-2 m below the seabed), classified by genesis. The genetic type as a property describes the formation process of the deposit. This map corresponds to a Quaternary geological map. The data covers parts of the Norwegian continental shelf in the Norwegian Sea, the North Sea and in the Skagerrak. The data is based on the contents of the analogous Quaternary map (scale 1: 250,000 to 1: 500,000), and on digital data from modern surveying.

Usage

This data set can be used as basis for decision making in the overall land use and environmental planning. The data set can also be used as support in connection with planning of research within e.g vulnerability assessment, habitat mapping etc.

Explanation of assessment of FAIR principles:

There have made various tests to evaluate datasets in relation to the FAIR criteria. These are our interpretations, which then assess the criteria in relation to standards and protocols used for spatial data in Norway and Europe. For more information on which calculations we use for each indicator, look at the details of FAIR assessments for each specific dataset.
