Wilderness (absence of technical installations) 2013
Definition: The data set shows which areas in Norway (excluding Svalbard and Jan Mayen) that is not affected by major infrastructure development. Areas without major infrastructure development are areas located one kilometer or more away from major infrastructure development such as roads, major power lines, railway, watercourse etc. The data forming the basis of the maps are taken from national registries, municipalities and county governors. The data set also shows which areas have had their status as a result of new interventions in periods 1988-2013,1998-2013, 2003-2013 and 2008-2013. Undeveloped natural areas are an established area-purpose indicator that shows the status and trends of large continuous areas in Norway. More specifically, the development of areas without infrastructure development, is an national environmental indicator linked to environmental objectives 1. Biodiversity and further 1.1. "Ecosystem should have good condition and deliver ecosystem services".
